4。5 - it would probably be a solid 5 if I was able to read it within a better time frame AND not be so confused during the first 1/4th bc I didn’t reread A Shadow In the Ember。 I also think this book may have solidified my preference for Nyktos… I love casteel but he hasnt been GIVING。 Maybe the next FBAA book will change my mind？

I hate cliffhangers！ I’m frustrated with the descriptions in this book。 Where the characters are and their position in the space they reside is never clear and that greatly stunts my ability to see the scene in my head。 Like her legs are where？ And they are accomplishing this how？ No clue。 I still hate the miscommunication。 I love all of the draken though， and Bele and Rhain。 I still prefer Poppy to Sera， but I’ll still continue the prequel series。

I love this series， but after War of Two Queens came out and everyone pointed out the lazy writing， it was hard to ignore。 The prequel and the original series have waaayy to many similarities and it does come off as lazy。 It's a shame， because the premise and plot are fantastic and I do enjoy the writing。 There were some elements that repeated too often （i。e。 the "I have a question" joke was so overplayed it freaking hurt） and it distracted from the story。The drakin were my favorite， I only want I love this series， but after War of Two Queens came out and everyone pointed out the lazy writing， it was hard to ignore。 The prequel and the original series have waaayy to many similarities and it does come off as lazy。 It's a shame， because the premise and plot are fantastic and I do enjoy the writing。 There were some elements that repeated too often （i。e。 the "I have a question" joke was so overplayed it freaking hurt） and it distracted from the story。The drakin were my favorite， I only want interactions with Sera and Jadis/Reaver at all times。 I also am super curious if the kiyou wolves will be descended from Sera。 I hope this series ends in a trilogy because I don't want it dragged out like the original series。 Overall， 4/5 stars。 Very entertaining and if I don't think you'd notice the extreme similarities or lazy-ish writing if it wasn't pointed out。 I'll definitely be reading the rest of the series just to see how the story ends because I enjoy the plot。 。。。more

I need everyone to stop what you’re doing and get invested in this series （and the From Blood and Ash series） if you havent already。 I literally bought this book on release week finally got around to reading it， and I’m so so mad at myself for waiting this long。 I have been so invested in this universe ever since I read FBAA， and I immediately fell in love with this series knowing that we get to find out more about Ash and Sera。 I loved that we picked up right from where we left off in the previ I need everyone to stop what you’re doing and get invested in this series （and the From Blood and Ash series） if you havent already。 I literally bought this book on release week finally got around to reading it， and I’m so so mad at myself for waiting this long。 I have been so invested in this universe ever since I read FBAA， and I immediately fell in love with this series knowing that we get to find out more about Ash and Sera。 I loved that we picked up right from where we left off in the previous book and from then on it was twist after twist， betrayal and simply *sigh* Ash。 Like， I’m sorry but， nobody is doing angsty protectiveness like him。 I just love the way that the political plot didn’t take away from the romantic plot （and you know that’s what I’m really here for）。 I felt like every move in this book added tension to our main characters relationship which had me hooked。 Not to mention there were some amazing reveals that have gotten me excited for what comes next in the FBAA world too。 I just love how these books work in tandem with one another and Jennifer L。 Armentrout has done an amazing job at doing it。 If you know me， then you know I love these books so much and I cannot wait to read what comes next in this series！！！ 。。。more

This book was much better than the first one。 The characters felt more real， and not just like Nyktos’ puppets。 That being said， the book was probably 150 pages too long， mainly due to lengthy dialogues and descriptions。 The story didn’t really pick up until I had reached 50-60%， which is way too late IMO。 With the way this book ended， I’m hopeful the third one will start with a bang！
